As the competition for medical-school slots increases, and the spaces become ever-more scarce commodities, many schools are forced to reject many highly qualified students.

The average acceptance rates at medical schools are consistently below 50 percent, and the number of applicants increased by 4.6 percent from 2005 to 2006. Aspiring medical students find it extremely difficult to collaborate with their peers because some вЂњpremedsвЂќ go to radical measures to ensure they earn top grades. universities, a disease of epidemic proportions plagues the nationвЂ™s future doctors. When Charles Darwin conceived of his theory of natural selection, which spawned such terms as вЂњsurvival of the fittest,вЂќ I donвЂ™t think this is what he had in mind.
